We’d like to believe that this is something better. We’d like to believe that we bring to the table something more profound and more significant than the official pronouncements or messages of the hard rock band, Brand New Sin.
Instead, this website is a collaboration of people who have formed a community around Brand New Sin’s music. These are people from all over the world, although a lot of people here are from Syracuse, New York. This should not be a surprise because that’s where Brand New Sin comes from.
Some of us have seen the band get started. We’ve seen them go through their ups and downs. We’ve seen the drama, both behind the scenes and on the stage. We have a sense that we know them like the back of our hands.
And this is why a lot of people have followed them for some time because they do bring something to the table. They bring a tremendous amount of sincerity, authenticity, and an edge to them that you really can’t find with other bands.
With other bands, you can tell that these people actually grew up in the lap of luxury. You can tell that these people were actually well-traveled, well-read.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing wrong with being middle class in the United States, but let’s call a spade a spade. You really cannot call yourself the second coming of the great working class youth revolution when you come from the middle class. That’s just not going to happen.
What do you know about the angst, the depression, or the anxiety gripping many parts of the United States? What do you know about struggle? What do you know about trying to bring a voice to the inner struggles of people who have to work for a living?
You can fake it. You can be the Bob Dylan of our generation, but somehow, some way, it rings hollow. There’s something missing. It doesn’t really quite hit people in the gut. It may still be authentic, but because it isn’t a sincere expression of truth coming from deep within a person’s being, there’s still something there.
This is where Brand New Sin comes in. They really come from a part of the American experience that has been overlooked for so long.
They don’t do this with a sense of entitlement, mind you. It’s not like they feel that they represent some segment of a long forgotten American demographic. Instead, they demand to be heard because of their perspective, not so much because they represent somebody else.
And this perspective is quite rich. It’s about authenticity. It’s about growing up. It’s about the delicate tension between tradition and the ever-changing and ever-chaotic modern economic, social, political and cultural landscape that makes up America.
This is heavy stuff, but at the same time, when you listen to their music, you enjoy the great composition. All that urgency, all that drama is packed into well-composed, choppy and thoroughly entertaining music.
To say that they really bring a lot to the table would be an understatement indeed. In fact, this is part of their appeal—that they are able to present these truths that you would normally see in some sort of literary critical paper or essay in easy-to-understand musical form. They really are a gift.
So, accordingly, this website was built because they have cultivated quite a bit of a community from all four corners of the United States. People can’t get enough of them. And if you are a big Brand New Sin fan, welcome home.
